Eric Bieniemy is back with the Kansas City Chiefs. The team’s offensive coordinator returned to the practice field on Monday, August 10, just two weeks after his wife was allegedly shot by their son at the family’s home in Virginia. Bieniemy had been away from the Chiefs since the July 26 shooting of his wife, Mia Bieniemy.

Eric’s wife Mia was allegedly shot multiple times at the couple’s home by their 27-year-old son, Elijah Bieniemy. Elijah has been charged with three felonies and has remained in county jail since the night of the shooting. The case is still ongoing.
After the incident, Bieniemy immediately left Chiefs training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, to be with his wife. Although he was not physically with the team, he continued to stay involved with the Chiefs remotely. Passing game coordinator Joe Bleymaier handled the offensive coordinator duties on the field while Bieniemy was away.
Now, Bieniemy has returned to training camp and is back in charge of the Chiefs’ offense.
The coach’s return was met with plenty of support from the team. Mitch Holthus, the longtime voice of the Chiefs, was among those who welcomed Bieniemy back with a big hug.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid previously shared an encouraging update about Mia’s recovery, saying she was doing well following the shooting.
Bieniemy’s return means his attention can once again turn toward preparing the Chiefs for the upcoming NFL season. However, his family is still dealing with the legal case surrounding the shooting.
Elijah remains in custody while facing the felony charges connected to the incident. If convicted, he could face serious prison time.
For now, Bieniemy is back on the field with the Chiefs as his wife continues to recover.
