Eric Trump opened up about what it was like growing up with Donald Trump and his late mother, Ivana Trump. The 42-year-old businessman recently recalled his parents’ very different ways of disciplining him and his siblings. In an interview with The Telegraph, Eric spoke about Ivana, who died in 2022. He remembered how she could be loving one moment and very strict the next.
Eric Trump recalled how his late mother, Ivana, would physically discipline him when he stepped out of line
In The Telegraph‘s interview, Eric said his mother Ivana was honest with her children and did not hesitate to discipline them when they stepped out of line. “She was just honest,” he said. He added that his mother could give them a loving hug but could also tell them, “too effing bad. Get over it.”
Eric described his mother’s approach as “old-school Czech discipline.” He recalled that she would physically discipline him and his siblings when they did not behave or use proper manners.
“She spanked the h— out of us,” Eric said, adding that while the approach would not be considered acceptable today, he believed it worked for them. Eric also said Ivana only had to give them a certain look for them to know that they were about to get in trouble.
When asked whether Donald was also physical when disciplining his children, Eric said no. Instead, he described his father as strict in another way. Eric said Donald had very high expectations for his children. “He was strict in a different way and he had very high expectations of us in terms of manners, grades, achievements and not being lazy,” Eric said.
According to Eric, his father also taught his children to work for the things they wanted. Eric recalled that growing up in the Trump family did not mean getting everything they wanted. He said, “There were no Ferraris at 16 years old.”
Ivana died in July 2022 at the age of 73 after suffering blunt impact injuries in a fall down a staircase. Donald Trump and his children paid tribute to her following her death. Donald also remembered his former wife publicly, calling her a “wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman.” Ivana was born in Czechoslovakia and married Donald Trump in 1977. They divorced in 1992.
