Monty Python star John Cleese praised the show on X despite the negative criticism surrounding it. Ricky Gervais, who was touched by the support, also responded to Cleese’s post.
Cleese posted, “The Ricky Gervaise CATS animation is quite wonderful.”
“Thanks so much, John. That means quite a lot from the creator of the greatest British sitcom of all time,” Gervais commented.
Although John Cleese’s praise may have helped boost the confidence of the Primetime Emmy Award-winning actor, the reaction from many others remained different.
Looking at the comments on the post, a majority of people continued to criticize and troll Alley Cats despite the support from the comedy legend.

The series has not received much appreciation from critics, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a Tomatometer score of just 17%. However, its audience response has been comparatively better, with a Popcornmeter score of 59%, which is considered above average.
Talking about the main voice cast and characters of Alley Cats, the series features several well-known voices. Ricky Gervais himself voices Gus, a cynical orange tabby cat.
The series also features a stellar voice ensemble, including Kerry Godliman as Lara, Diane Morgan as Olive, David Earl as Puke, Tom Basden as Rupert/Ponce, Andrew Brooke as Fang, and Jo Hartley as Kitten, along with appearances by Natalie Cassidy and Tony Way.
Alley Cats was created, written, and directed by Ricky Gervais, with Elliot Deer also credited for direction. The series was produced by Hugo Donkin.
