Famous American actor, director, and producer Matthew Lillard is widely known for his role in Scream. Recently, he revisited those memories and opened up about a mystery that continues to leave fans wondering even today.
The original Ghostface duo confirmed Tatum’s killer remains purely fan theory
During the 30th anniversary celebration of Scream, Scooby-Doo fame Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, and other figures from the original movie, including Jamie Kennedy, Joseph Whipp, stunt performer Lee Waddell, and Ghostface voice actor Roger L. Jackson, gathered in Long Beach, California.
During the event, they were asked about the mystery surrounding Tatum Riley’s death and who was actually under the Ghostface costume during that scene. Skeet Ulrich also admitted that he did not know the answer to the question.
According to the Blast, Skeet Ulrich said, “To be honest, not even [screenwriter] Kevin Williamson knows who killed [Tatum]. And he wrote the damn thing.”
“And we never discussed it. So, it’s really fan theory, which I think is great. But, I don’t know. No one knows,” he added.
Following Skeet Ulrich’s answer, American actor Matthew Lillard shared his own personal theory about the mystery, in which he suggested that Stu was the killer behind the Ghostface costume during the scene.
Lillard said, “I always say it’s because she said ‘no’ to going to prom.”
However, Matthew Lillard did not reveal whether his theory was ever acknowledged, confirmed, or agreed upon by Kevin Williamson, Wes Craven, or anyone else involved with the film. This means the mystery still remains unsolved.
The movie’s screenplay was written by Kevin Williamson, and it was directed by Wes Craven. The film was distributed by Dimension Films.
For your information, the original Scream movie was not only loved by audiences but also received positive responses from critics. The film holds a Tomatometer score of 78% and a Popcornmeter score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.
