Sophie Turner is looking back on the height of her career as Sansa Stark in “Game of Thrones”.
The actress says that spending half her adolescence as Sansa made it tough for her to excavate what was beyond it after the show ended.
Sophie Turner reveals why saying goodbye to Sansa Stark was very difficult
In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Turner reflected on being cast as Sansa Stark at just 13 years old. She also commented on how growing entirely during the HBO series impacted her.
The 30-year-old admitted that the deep attachment to the character made her emotionally confused. “I didn’t know who was Sansa and who was Sophie,” she said. “I had a big identity crisis when I let her go; I didn’t really know who I was or what I was doing. It was a strange, hard time.”
Turner explained that she had been too young to read George R.R. Martin’s novels when she first took the role. Hence, she really lived the role during the tender growing-up years. The role, which made her a global star, also proved to be a difficult one to step away from.
However, the actress is on a different path now. Following her move to the U.K. after her separation from Joe Jonas, the actress is finding herself in a different mindset. She has starred in “Joan” and “Steal” and is now preparing to lead Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s television adaptation of Tomb Raider.
She said, “Right now, my focus is Tomb Raider. It has been for quite a while and will be for a while to come. I feel good doing it. I was birthed by Game of Thrones – TV is my bread and butter, and I love developing a character over years. If I hadn’t had Game of Thrones, this would be overwhelming. But it’s a joy.”
The actress, who shares two daughters with Jonas, said she is now enjoying life back in London. She is spending time with close friends and focusing on her mental and physical health.
