Dr. Phil McGraw was absent from Oprah Winfrey‘s 40-year television celebration. The former talk show host reunited with several colleagues, while Dr. Phil was not among them.
Oprah Winfrey reunited with former colleagues, but Dr. Phil McGraw was notably missing
Oprah Winfrey recently marked 40 years in television with a gathering of people who were part of her long-running show The Oprah Winfrey Show. However, Dr. Phil McGraw was nowhere to be seen, which quickly drew attention.
According to Rob Shuter’s Substack Naughty But Nice, an insider said, “If Oprah wanted Dr. Phil there, he would have been there. This was her celebration, and she was very deliberate about who was invited back into the room.”
The source suggested that the absence of McGraw might have been intentional, as their relationship has cooled off over the years.
“Dr. Phil owes Oprah a lot, but Oprah also knows exactly what she created. She doesn’t need to bring back everyone from the past just because they were once part of the story,” the source added.
“This was about celebrating the people Oprah still feels connected to. Dr. Phil is part of the history, but apparently not part of the reunion,” another insider said.
During the celebration, Oprah reunited with several familiar faces at Chicago’s Navy Pier. Stedman Graham also made an appearance alongside Chef Art Smith. The gathering brought familiar faces from different phases of Winfrey’s career. However, Dr. Phil’s absence added another layer to reports of distance between them.
McGraw became a regular guest on her show after they met in 1998. However, he launched his own show, Dr. Phil, in 2002. Since then, his appearances with Oprah have reduced significantly.
The Oprah Winfrey Show ran from 1986 to 2011 and became the biggest highlight of her TV career.
McGraw’s absence has fueled speculation about their relationship, but neither he nor Winfrey has publicly explained why he was not at the reunion.
