Paris Jackson revealed that Justin Long wasn’t her first fiancé and opened up about a secret engagement she experienced while struggling with drugs. The singer also explained why she ended her relationship with Long and why she planned to raise her standards before dating again.
Jackson, 28, discussed her past relationships while reflecting on the breakup that followed her engagement to Long. The couple dated for around three years before splitting in July 2025.
Paris Jackson reflects on calling off her secret first engagement while “strung out on drugs”
During an appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, Jackson revealed that she had called off two engagements. She said her first engagement happened while she and her unnamed former partner struggled with drug addiction.
“This is also my second engagement that I called off, the first one. I don’t know if you could count the first one, it was real to me, even though we were strung out on drugs,” Jackson said during the conversation.
She added that her former partner bought the engagement ring using her money without her knowledge. Despite that detail, Jackson said she considered the relationship genuine at the time.
Jackson has previously spoken openly about her struggles with alcohol and heroin addiction. She marked six years of sobriety in January 2026. The singer also addressed her split with Justin Long, admitting she sometimes considered staying because she hoped their relationship would improve.
“I realised just because someone is a good person doesn’t mean they’re my person,” Jackson said. “And I have to be happy.”
Jackson said she realized that having a good, loyal partner wasn’t enough if her major relationship needs were not being met.
“And if these big major needs are not being met, it doesn’t matter that you’re a good person and you’re not going to cheat on me. That’s not a reason to stay,” she added.
Jackson and Long started dating in 2022 after meeting backstage at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Long worked as a producer, mixer and music engineer and collaborated with Jackson behind the scenes.
They announced their engagement in December 2024 before ending their relationship months later.
After spending time single, Jackson said she planned to approach future relationships differently.
“I can be a little bit pickier. The bar can be raised a bit because it’s historically been very low,” she said.
