Meghan Markle ‘Hijacked’ Royal Culture for Her Own Good — Expert

Meghan Markle has faced fresh criticism over her lifestyle brand As Ever. Commentator Kinsey Schofield accused her of borrowing from British royal culture after publicly breaking away from the institution. Schofield made the claim while discussing Harry and Meghan’s latest reported Hollywood setbacks with Kevin O’Sullivan.

Expert accuses Meghan Markle of taking inspiration from royal culture for her As Ever brand

During the discussion, Schofield argued that Meghan has struggled to understand what audiences want from her projects. “She doesn’t know what other people want,” Schofield said. She claimed successful Hollywood producers and directors understand what captures public attention and how to turn that interest into successful entertainment.

According to Schofield, Meghan has failed to demonstrate the same understanding with her recent projects. “She doesn’t understand people,” she said. Schofield argued that Markle has not shown a clear grasp of what audiences expect from her.

Schofield then turned her attention to As Ever and questioned the direction Meghan took after leaving the Royal Family. She argued that few people would have expected Meghan to move into products associated with traditional British homemaking after her royal exit. “I mean, no one when Harry and Meghan abandoned the British royal family thought, you know what we really want or need from Meghan Markle? Flower sprinkles,” Schofield said. She also referenced the brand’s fruit spreads and other lifestyle offerings.

Schofield suggested Meghan could have chosen a more unexpected business direction and used wine as an example of a potential pivot that might have felt more natural to some consumers. Schofield’s strongest criticism came when she accused Meghan of using parts of British culture to make money. She argued that Meghan publicly criticized the Royal Family before launching a brand that incorporates traditions associated with British lifestyle culture.

Schofield described the approach as effectively “hijacking” royal culture for As Ever. She pointed to Meghan’s promotion of products such as fruit spread and her references to serving it with scones as examples of the brand’s connection to traditional British food culture. “She viciously attacked the British royal family and then basically hijacked their culture for the As Ever brand,” Schofield claimed.
