Beatles Biopic Stars Recreate Iconic Abbey Road Cover After Council Tried to Stop It

The Beatles’ most famous street crossing got a Hollywood makeover as four biopic stars recreated Abbey Road’s iconic cover. Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn and Harris Dickinson brought the Fab Four’s legendary lineup back to London.

The recreation followed a reported Westminster council dispute over filming at the historic location. The council later confirmed that production could proceed while working closely with the filmmakers.

Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn and Harris Dickinson recreated Abbey Road

Dickinson played John Lennon and led the crossing in a crisp white suit. Keoghan followed as Ringo Starr, with Mescal portraying Paul McCartney and Quinn playing George Harrison.

The scene recreated the 1969 Abbey Road album cover, one of music history’s most recognizable images. Photographer Iain MacMillan captured the original outside the Beatles’ studio.

MacMillan balanced on a ladder in the road and had only ten minutes. He photographed the band walking repeatedly across the zebra crossing. McCartney selected the final image for the Abbey Road album cover.

The production also brought back Lennon’s psychedelic Rolls-Royce Phantom V for the Beatles biopic. Lennon transformed the car from black into a colorful psychedelic masterpiece in 1967.

Daniel Hoffmann-Gill also appeared as Mal Evans, the Beatles’ longtime roadie. Brian Epstein hired Evans, who became essential to the band’s tours and recording sessions.

The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event will tell the group’s story through four connected movies. Mendes will direct the ambitious project, with each film following one Beatle’s perspective.

The cast also includes Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd and Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono. James Norton plays manager Brian Epstein, while Mia McKenna-Bruce portrays Maureen Starkey.

Harry Lloyd takes the role of George Martin, the producer often called the “fifth Beatle.” The project marked the first feature-film rights granted by surviving members and families.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr participated alongside the families of Lennon and Harrison. All four Beatles movies will premiere simultaneously in 2028.

Ringo previously praised Keoghan’s casting, saying the actor was in “good hands” with the Oscar nominee. Fans now had their first full glimpse of the Beatles biopic cast together.
