Meghan Markle’s Brand Is Becoming a ‘Risk’ in Hollywood — Expert

Meghan Markle reportedly faced another challenge as she continued building her Hollywood career. Branding expert Rebecca May said the Duchess of Sussex had a perception problem.

She suggested Meghan needed more vulnerability and less controlled content. May also warned that Meghan’s personal brand could overshadow future projects.

Branding expert Rebecca May says Meghan Markle needs more vulnerability and less managed content to change how Hollywood views her

Rebecca May told the Daily Mail that Meghan did not have a visibility problem. Instead, the branding expert said she had a perception problem. She linked that issue to the continuing attention around Meghan’s personal life. That attention included memories of “Megxit” and Prince Harry’s royal feud.

May said, “Hollywood is used to dealing with high-profile personalities, but there comes a point where too much noise around someone becomes a brand risk.” “You don’t want the person attached to a project constantly becoming a bigger story than the project itself,” She added. She added that this could leave “the project losing control of its own narrative.”

The expert also questioned Meghan’s tightly managed public image. May said controlling the narrative too closely could work against her. “There needs to be some vulnerability and something that feels less practised and managed,” she explained. However, May acknowledged that Meghan could have private reasons for protecting certain details.

May pointed to Meghan’s recent projects as another concern. Her latest documentary, “Cookie Queens,” reportedly received a mixed critical response. Some critics questioned whether the production felt staged. The project was produced by Archewell Productions and reportedly struggled at the box office.

Meghan had still maintained several major entertainment connections. She had a Netflix lifestyle show and an Emmy nomination. Her Hollywood work also included producing projects through Archewell Productions.

The expert suggested Meghan should consider reputation management behind the scenes. She said, “This is probably a time to almost go into reputation-management mode.” May also warned that changing projects would not solve the issue alone.

Meghan’s Hollywood career therefore continued facing a complicated branding challenge. Her global visibility remained strong despite the criticism surrounding some projects. “You can’t keep changing the project if the public perception of the person behind it stays the same,” she said.

May argued that visibility alone was not enough to build lasting success. She believed greater vulnerability could help Meghan change how Hollywood viewed her.
