A new report framed the issue around family memory, wedding protocol, and how closely Diana’s jewelry remains tied to both brothers.
Prince William voices concerns over Meghan Markle wearing Princess Diana’s jewelry, book claims
As per HOLA!, Meghan Markle recently wore Princess Diana’s butterfly earrings in Canada. The outing was for the David Foster Foundation’s 40th Anniversary Celebration. She attended the event with Prince Harry earlier this month. The earrings were diamond and sapphire pieces once worn by Diana during a 1986 royal visit to Canada. After her death, the jewelry reportedly passed to Harry.
Meanwhile, HOLA! revisited Robert Jobson’s 2024 book, “Catherine, the Princess of Wales.” The royal biographer wrote that Prince William was “still concerned” about Harry’s romantic match. He claimed that the future king sought “assurances from the Queen” before the 2018 wedding.
Those assurances reportedly involved Harry’s bride not wearing “any of Princess Diana’s jewellery.” Jobson also noted William’s wife, Kate Middleton, had been “allowed” to wear it. The claim, however, was not publicly confirmed by William or the Palace.
Diana’s jewelry became part of Markle and Harry’s story from the beginning. The Duke designed her engagement ring with two diamonds from Diana’s collection. He said the stones made sure Diana was “with us” on the journey. Markle later wore Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau Tiara for the wedding ceremony. However, she wore Diana’s aquamarine ring at the Frogmore House reception. HOLA! also noted the Duchess has worn Diana’s diamond tennis bracelet.
For the Sussexes, the jewelry remained sentimental. However, for William, Jobson’s claim suggested early concern over Diana’s legacy.
