Mychal Threets recently praised Doechii for her song “Anxiety” before sharing that he was seeking help for personal struggles.
Mychal Threets thanked Doechii for her anxiety anthem before announcing a hospital stay
Threets, 36, shared a TikTok video of himself holding a bouquet while praising Doechii’s song.
“We need to give Doechii their flowers for making a song about anxiety,” he wrote. “We really needed that, and she came through!”
Doechii released “Anxiety” in 2019, and the song went viral in 2025. The track reflects her experience with anxiety.
While speaking with Flood in 2024 about Alligator Bites, Doechii explained why she discusses personal experiences in her music.
“I have to trust [audiences] to please not take this for granted, and to please not use this against me. I have to be real about all this because somebody else could be going through the same thing. I needed to talk about this for myself, because this was therapy.”
On Aug. 17, Threets shared an update on Threads and said he planned to seek help.
“I am not OK. Maybe I’ll never be OK. I’m seeking help. Going to the hopital [sic] tomorrow,” he wrote.
Later, he reassured followers that he was safe.
“In this moment, I am safe. By God’s grace. No matter what happens to me I will always be thankful for the extraordinary people in my life who worry, who help me. Thank you for your care. I will always love you.”
Known online as Mychal the Librarian, Threets became host of Reading Rainbow in 2025.
During an April interview with NBC Bay Area, he also discussed his previous mental health struggles and said he had planned to take his own life in March 2024.
