Riley Burruss Says Backlash Over Messy ‘Next Gen NYC’ Moment Turned Racist

Riley Burruss has made a big name for herself at a young age, largely due to her appearances on Bravo’s reality shows The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Next Gen NYC. While she has recently been making headlines over Season 2, the TV personality has now opened up about a messy moment and its real-life consequences after the situation turned racist.

Riley says criticism of her Next Gen NYC behavior crossed the line into racism

As per the Bossip coverage, the 23-year-old recently appeared on Gia Giudice’s Casual Chaos podcast, where she discussed the fallout from an episode in which Riley Burruss became heavily intoxicated during a girls’ night. Her behavior did not sit well with viewers, and she revealed how she received threatening messages, including racist remarks.

Riley said, “I got racist texts, and so I had to literally turn off my phone for a week.”

However, Kandi Burruss’s daughter does not claim that she was innocent, but instead fully acknowledges her mistake and understands why people were upset. However, she made it clear that she does not consider the racist comments directed at her to be okay.

Riley said, “I get it. The way I showed up on TV was really not okay. When it comes to like race, like all of those things, like the microaggressions, that’s not okay.”

The situation did not stop at criticism from viewers, as Riley Burruss also revealed how the episode, particularly her behavior, has affected her friendship with Ariana Biermann. According to Burruss, the two are no longer as close as they once were, although she believes Ariana does not know the full context of the situation.

As for Next Gen NYC Season 2, it premiered on June 24, 2026, and is still ongoing. The returning cast includes Ariana Biermann, Riley Burruss, Emira D’Spain, Brooks Marks, Ava Dash, Gia Giudice, Georgia McCann, Charlie Zakkour, Shai Fruchter, and Hudson McLeroy.
