Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s planned return to Britain is reportedly testing loyalties across London society. The Duke of Sussex and the former “Suits” actress have not yet returned to the UK. However, one insider claimed people are already asking, “Team Sussex or Team Wales?” The report portrays their comeback as a social risk for friends, hosts, and anyone photographed near the couple.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly put London society loyalties to test
According to Rob Shuter’s Substack, sources discussed how London society reacted to the Sussexes’ reported return. The report claims London’s establishment is already deciding where it stands.
One source said, “People are already making calculations.” They added, “Nobody wants to upset William and Kate.” The reason, they claimed, was simple: the Prince and Princess of Wales were “the future King and Queen.”
Meanwhile, the report said the issue wasn’t simply about personal dislike. It was about how public contact with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could be read. A dinner invite, party photo, or casual outing could become a royal signal.
The source said, “You can’t really be close to both sides anymore.” They added there’s “simply too much history.” People reportedly fear William and Kate could question “where their loyalties lie.”
However, Shuter’s source said the Waleses remained the safer long-term bet. The insider noted, “Nobody wants to pick a fight with the future King and Queen.” They stressed, “People know where the monarchy is going.”
According to the report, London’s social set is being forced to “think about the future.” Drawing on his past experience as Princess Michael of Kent’s US publicist, Shuter said he had insight into how royals and their advisers handled the press. For Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the return is being framed as more than a move. It reportedly puts friends and London society figures in the middle of a royal split.
