Prince Harry faced pressure to “set the record straight” after his reported UK return appeared to contradict past remarks. The Duke of Sussex has repeatedly discussed life outside Britain since stepping back in 2020. However, a royal reporter argued the reported move raised one basic issue. Harry and Meghan Markle had described the UK as unsafe for his family, while also praising the freedom he found in California.
Prince Harry faces pressure to explain his reported UK return, claims expert
As per Express, royal reporter Jasmine Carey questioned the UK return. Carey wrote that the news “took me by surprise” after years of Sussex criticism. She said Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had made it “adamantly clear” they were happier in America. Then, she asked why they would return to Britain after that public position.
Meanwhile, Carey pointed to Harry’s earlier security comments. She wrote that she had “lost count” of the couple’s public complaints. The reporter cited interviews, Netflix, and Harry’s memoir “Spare” as examples, adding that the criticisms were “pretty strong.” Carey then referenced Harry saying he did not think it was safe to bring his family back. She asked why he would move them to a country he called too “unsafe.”
However, the Express report also noted Markle’s old school-run argument. Carey wrote that the Duchess once said a UK school drop-off could become “a royal photo call.” She said Markle described “a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures.” The expert also cited Harry saying California gave his family experiences he “wouldn’t be able to do in the UK.” She then asked why he would give that up now.
Still, Carey said she did not oppose the family’s return itself, noting that King Charles could build a better relationship with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. However, she argued Harry needed to “set the record straight.” Furthermore, Carey called the current situation “confusing and hypocritical” but said a statement could help his popularity. Thus, for Harry, the upcoming UK return has been framed as a public explanation problem and not just a relocation story.
