Dolly Parton’s Donald Trump Comments Resurface After Her Death

Dolly Parton‘s comments regarding politics and Donald Trump have resurfaced following her death on August 25. The legendary singer passed away at the age of 80 following her struggles with cancer, according to her family. Since then, many renowned personalities and fans have poured into social media to pay tribute to the icon.

Dolly Parton refused to take sides in politics for a reason

Dolly Parton has always refrained from expressing public opinions about politics, including her thoughts on Donald Trump. Despite being one of the most influential figures in the world, Parton always kept her distance from taking sides in politics.

A 2020 USA Today interview with the singer has resurfaced following her passing. During this time, Trump was serving his first term as President. Shedding light on the reason why she refrains from discussing politics, Parton said that, firstly, she was not a fan of getting “involved in politics.” She stated that another reason was that she has “as many Republican fans as I do Democrats.”

She asserted that her main motive was not to divide and upset her fans. Parton added that her goal was not to “offend anybody.” The singer conveyed that even though they have free speech in the country, a person has “to be responsible for anything you say and do.” Parton also addressed the issue in a 2021 interview with People. She said that because she has so many fans, she needed to be mindful of her words.

Parton said, “I know whatever I say, people are going to listen, and they’re going to make more of it than maybe what I meant. So I have to be careful. Of course I have my opinion, but I’m not an opinionated person as a rule.”

Previously, Parton has also refused to accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom twice from both Trump and Joe Biden.
