Dua Lipa marked another trip around the sun with plenty of cake and a seriously memorable piece of fashion history with a see-through micro minidress. The singer shared a carousel from her birthday weekend on Instagram. It gave fans a glimpse at the celebrations while showing off a black minidress with an archival Dior connection.
Lipa’s daring number featured a low off-shoulder neckline that slipped down around her upper arms, revealing two extremely thin straps over her shoulders. The fitted black fabric appeared semi-sheer under the flash, while delicate ruffled detailing trimmed the neckline, sleeves, and tiny hem.
The dress was actually an altered version of a far more dramatic design from Christian Dior’s Spring/Summer 2004 collection. It was by John Galliano, according to fashion account The Dua Lipa Closet.
The original black silk gown shared the same fitted, off-the-shoulder bodice but extended into an enormous, sweeping skirt and train. Lipa’s version did away with the floor-length fabric entirely, turning the archival gown into a leg-baring micro minidress.
She kept the rest of her look simple, wearing her dark hair loose around her shoulders and opting for fresh, rosy makeup. “Birthday weekend thank you for all the love and the wishes!!! ready for my next lap around the sun…it just keeps getting better,” Lipa captioned her Instagram carousel.
The photos also captured some sweeter moments from the festivities. One snap showed an elaborately decorated birthday cake covered in piped frosting, tiny flowers, and glowing candles.
Another offered a glimpse of Lipa with her fiancé, Callum Turner, who planted a kiss on her head as the singer looked toward the camera. The birthday treats apparently didn’t stop at one cake, either. Lipa posed in a white robe holding a chocolate cake topped with candles.
Between the sweets and late-night celebrations, Lipa packed plenty into her birthday weekend.
