Tom Curry revealed he once lied to Donald Trump on the set of ‘Home Alone 2’
Tim Curry revealed he once lied to Donald Trump and Ivana Trump on the set of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The beloved actor recalled the incident in an October 2025 interview with The Guardian, months before his death. Curry died at 80 on Tuesday, Aug. 25, his representatives confirmed.
Curry portrayed the suspicious Plaza Hotel concierge, Mr. Hector, in the 1992 sequel. Trump had purchased the iconic New York City hotel in 1988. Ivana Trump still managed the property when the movie was being filmed there.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show star found himself fibbing about Ivana’s interior design choices at the Plaza. “She knocked on my door and said, ‘Are you happy in your room? Do you like the way it looks?'” Curry recalled. “And I loathed it actually.”
By then, Donald had moved on to his soon-to-be second wife, Marla Maples. He was also “very anxious” to find director Chris Columbus during filming. “He said, ‘I’ve got to get Marla to meet Chris Columbus because she’s a brilliant actress,'” Curry claimed. “And I thought: ‘Yeah, I’m sure.'”
Trump famously made a cameo appearance in the film alongside Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McCallister. Columbus, who went on to direct Mrs. Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potter films, later expressed regret. He told the San Francisco Chronicle that he wished the cameo was not there. “He said I begged him to be in the movie, but there’s no world I would ever beg a non-actor to be in a movie,” Columbus said. “But we were desperate to get The Plaza Hotel.”
