Benjamin Netanyahu Says Iran Tried to ‘Murder’ His Son After Miami Security Scare

Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, has revealed that his 35-year-old son, Yair Netanyahu, was urgently evacuated from Miami after what Israeli security officials described as a “significant threat.” Netanyahu claimed the threat was linked to an alleged attempt by Iran to kill his son.

Israel’s Shin Bet security agency confirmed over the weekend that it carried out the Miami evacuation operation in December 2025. However, the agency did not provide details about the nature of the threat.

The Associated Press reported that the revelation followed comments the prime minister made during an Aug. 24 interview with Israeli broadcaster Channel 14. According to PEOPLE, speaking about the security measures for his sons, he said, “Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to kill, to murder one of my sons.”

He added, “Iran tried to murder one of my sons, and therefore this security protection is not a luxury.”

Yair, who is the elder of Netanyahu’s two sons, moved to Miami in 2023 and has spent most of his time outside Israel since then. He has also been a vocal supporter of his father, frequently defending him and sparring with critics on social media.

His time abroad has occasionally drawn attention. In March, Yair pushed back against claims that he was still living in Miami, writing on X that he was “in Israel right now — not at the beach in Miami.”

Newsmax reported that Netanyahu was referring to Yair, who moved to Miami in 2023. Yair is also known for defending his father on social media and frequently responding to his critics.

Shin Bet later confirmed that it had “urgently evacuate[d]” Yair from the U.S. after receiving the significant threat. However, the agency has not disclosed who was behind the threat or provided further details about the alleged attempt.

Yair had not publicly addressed the reported evacuation as of Monday. He is one of Netanyahu’s two sons with his wife, Sara, alongside 31-year-old Avner.

The confirmation comes as security concerns surrounding the Netanyahu family remain heightened. In July, Shin Bet announced that Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife would receive security protection for the rest of their lives, while their sons would receive protection through at least 2031, according to Israeli outlet ynet.
