Josh Sanders was arrested in North Carolina as his custody battle over his three children continued to intensify. The former The Voice runner-up was taken into custody over outstanding traffic warrants and an alleged obstruction charge.
The 38-year-old singer was booked into Cabarrus County Jail on Saturday, August 29, following his arrest by Kannapolis police. The latest legal trouble arrived while Sanders and his estranged wife, Kendra, remained locked in a contentious fight over their children.
Police arrested Josh Sanders over outstanding warrants and an obstruction of justice charge
According to TMZ, Sanders’ warrants stemmed from traffic-related violations and an allegation that he obstructed or delayed a law enforcement officer. The outlet reported that officials confirmed his arrest and booking in North Carolina.
The arrest added another wrinkle to an already complicated family dispute. Sanders and Kendra separated in January and have since battled over custody of their three children.
Court filings previously showed Sanders arguing that he should receive custody. Kendra, meanwhile, made several allegations about his behavior, including claims involving alcohol and driving with their children while allegedly intoxicated.
She also accused Sanders of behaving violently in front of the children. According to the outlet, Kendra claimed his alleged drinking had negatively affected his music career following his appearance on The Voice.
Sanders disputed those claims. He accused Kendra of interfering with his relationship with their children, pushing back against her characterization of their family situation.
The singer rose to wider attention in 2024 after competing on NBC’s The Voice, where he ultimately finished as the season’s runner-up. He continued pursuing his music career after the competition, though the custody dispute has since placed his personal life under a much brighter spotlight.
Sanders and Kendra reportedly had known each other since childhood, after growing up as neighbors. A 2024 Life & Style report said they had known each other since they were five years old and shared three daughters.
The couple also had a son, Leelynd, who tragically died on the day he was born. Now, the latest arrest has added another legal complication as the former couple continues navigating their custody fight. Sanders’ latest case remained separate from the allegations raised during the custody proceedings.
