Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been warned against releasing a “big emotional statement” about their UK return by an expert. The Daily Express US noted that the Sussexes have stayed quiet since news of their move broke, most likely for security reasons.
PR specialist Grayce McCormick told the outlet that if the couple does eventually speak, they should steer clear of anything too dramatic. According to McCormick, “a big emotional statement risks turning a family decision into another Sussex media event.”
McCormick noted that the move itself already carries more weight than any polished statement could. She pointed to recent Ipsos polling that put Harry’s favorability among Brits at around 30% and Meghan’s at 23%, while 55% of respondents still said they would prefer Britain remain a monarchy. Given those numbers, the expert suggested the couple shouldn’t be chasing public approval, but should instead focus on making “old narratives less relevant.”
If Harry and Meghan do decide to comment, McCormick advised they should keep things “simple and human,” something along the lines of being happy to spend more time in Britain as a family. After that, she suggested the Sussexes should stop talking altogether and avoid revisiting 2020 or old grievances entirely.
So far, that’s essentially the approach the couple has taken. A spokesperson reportedly declined to address their travel arrangements, citing privacy and security concerns. When Harry was asked directly about the move at a veterans’ event in Washington, he reportedly kept his response short.
Other experts allegedly see a bigger challenge ahead. Former royal butler Grant Harrold claimed King Charles could extend a Christmas invitation if the reunion goes smoothly, but only if Harry and Meghan keep a low profile. Harrold added that public frustration over the couple’s return remains strong.
