LeBron James has clarified whether he will compete in the 2028 LA Olympics. James reunited with his Team USA teammate Stephen Curry on Tuesday, November 18, for his Mind The Game podcast. They discussed their incredible NBA careers, fitness, and stamina, as well as competition and motivation, during the 48-minute podcast.
LeBron James sets the record straight on his 2028 LA Olympics status
LeBron James was honest about his participation in the 2028 LA Olympics. The 40-year-old NBA star confirmed he has no plans to participate in the much-awaited event. James joked to Curry and Steve Nash, “You already know my answer. I will be watching it from Cabo.” The Lakers superstar is allegedly referring to Cabo San Lucas, a resort city in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Curry revealed that he had already discussed their participation in the 2028 LA Olympics off the record with James. While James has already made up his mind, Curry confessed that his decision remains unclear.
He said, “God willing I still have the choice and the physical option to feel like I can actually impact the team, I’d never say never, but I highly doubt it.” Curry admitted he would “love to be a part of the movement.”
James reminded Curry of their incredible run at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Notably, Team USA beat Team France 98–87 to bag a gold medal for their country. Interestingly, James also won the title of Most Valuable Player for his brilliant performance.
James reminisced to Curry, “We can’t top what we just did. We can’t top those last two games, and just, the moment. We literally played France in Paris.” Team USA will participate in the qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, taking place on November 28 and December 1 in Qatar, to defend its gold medal. The 40-year-old Lakers superstar boasts three Olympic medals from the 2008, 2012, and 2024 Games in his illustrious career.
Recently, LeBron James confessed he is not as fit and that his ability to recover from routine practice is weakening. James shared that he will have to see how his body responds in the next 24 hours before deciding whether he can continue playing like before or not. The 40-year-old NBA star made an honest confession, saying: “My lungs feel like a newborn baby.”
