Many fans of Robert Irwin have been concerned about the rib injury he sustained during his preparation for the Dancing With The Stars finale with partner Witney Carson. The ballroom pro revealed on TikTok before the finale that the camera blocking for their dances had become “a little stressful” and that “Robert’s ribs have been killing him.” Multiple shots during the show saw him holding his left lower abdomen and doubling over in pain. Irwin still danced fiercely despite the setback and revealed how he’s been feeling the day after in a segment on Good Morning America.
Irwin stills finds his rib injury “painful”
“We’re getting there,” the 21-year-old contestant said on GMA on Wednesday, November 26. “It’s painful, but, you know, no pain no gain.”
The conservationist noted that Carson had to alter some of their dance moves in consideration of his injury. “Witney was amazing at changing up some of the moves that we had to do in there. We had to change on the fly, but our last dance, the freestyle, was a way to say thank you to everybody who’d been on that journey.”
Witney confessed that he sustained the injury after he caught her after a toss in the air. She took the move out since “his health is my number-one priority.”
That said, Irwin replied that he wasn’t particularly worried about the injury given his past experience and was taking the pain in stride despite it hurting when he breathes. “And honestly, I’ll heal up!” he explained. “Mate, I catch crocs. I’m used to it. It’s all good!”
He explained that his dancing on the show helped to make the pain subside. “I didn’t even realize there was an issue until the end because the adrenaline, the passion and the fun of it all. It overrides anything, honestly.”
In a separate interview, Irwin revealed his dating life and how challenging it’s been to navigate.
