Chiefs’ president Mark Donovan revealed how the team takes care of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship. In an interview with Kay Adams, Donovan confessed that the team does not want to take advantage of the high-profile relationship. Hence, they don’t show the pop star on the Jumbotron in their home stadium.
Adams playfully asked Donovan, “What have you learnt about Swifties?” Donovan laughed and replied, “Taylor has been amazing to us. It’s been nothing but good. She is a phenomenon, but she is a special kind of person.” The president confessed that he told Kelce that the Chiefs will respect and protect their relationship the same way they do for other players.
Donovan stated, “I told Travis, ‘Look, we are going to treat you and your relationship with the same respect that we treat any other player’s relationship. We are not going to monetize it. We are not going to go out there and go crazy.’”
Continuing further, he stated, “You know all those shots you see of Taylor in the stadium, right?… We never showed Taylor on our big boards in our stadium.” Adams seemed surprised and remarked, “Really.”
Donovan dished, “Never. It was respectful. We are not taking advantage of this relationship. I joked with him (Kelce) early on in the first year, ‘We never played a Taylor Swift song in the stadium when she’s in the building. Travis, to his credit, is all about the team and all about the guys.”
Furthermore, Adams asked what Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s relationship has done for the growth of the Chiefs’ brand. Donovan replied sincerely, “Yeah, it has a big impact on us… I say that everything Taylor brought to us has been good and positive, and it has accelerated.”
Donovan explained that Swift’s international fame with the mega Eras tour brought much-needed attention to the Chiefs as well as their high-profile relationship.
