On the December 3 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Prince Harry made a surprise visit. As Stephen was in the middle of a monologue about Hallmark’s plethora of royal romance films, Harry suddenly interrupted.
Just as Stephen was saying how unlikely it is to just randomly bump into a prince, Harry walked out. When the host asked what he was doing there, Harry told him, “Sorry. I genuinely thought this was the audition for The Gingerbread Prince Saves Christmas in Nebraska.”

After commenting on Americans’ obsession with both Christmas movies and royalty, Harry observed, “I heard you ‘elected’ a king.” Stephen agreed that was a “fair point,” as the audience booed the reference to Donald Trump.
“What’s a real prince got to do to get into a Hallmark movie?” Harry asked.
After explaining that in show business, it’s all about “who you know,” Stephen wondered if Harry had “any connections to any famous TV actresses?”
“I might know one,” the Duke of Sussex responded. Of course, Harry’s wife Meghan Markle is a former TV actress, best known for playing Rachel on Suits.
“But I’ll do anything,” Harry continued. “I’ll fly myself to an audition. I’ll settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House. All the things you people in TV do!”
When Stephen claimed, “I didn’t do any of those things,” Harry fired back, “Maybe that’s why you’re canceled.”
Suddenly, the set turned into a TV Christmas movie, complete with a snowman, Christmas trees and snow drifting down.
“Stephen, look,” the Spare author said, grabbing him by the arm. “You just have to believe … Isn’t there a handsome prince standing in front of you right now?”
As they moved closer and stared into each other’s eyes, it almost seemed as if they might kiss. But then Stephen said, “Harry … I was testing you. You’ve got the role!”
