Could Rob Reiner’s Son Nick Get the Death Penalty if Convicted?

Nick Reiner could be fighting for something much more valuable than his freedom in court. The son of Hollywood director Rob Reiner will be facing first-degree murder charges in the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele. The couple were discovered dead at their homes on Sunday afternoon.

Nick is currently in custody and is being held without bail in connection with the tragedy. Rob and Michele suffered multiple stab wounds in the incident in Brentwood.

The life of Nick Reiner may rest in the hands of 12 people. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman says Nick will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances and a special allegation that he used a knife in connection with the deaths.

If convicted, Nick’s best-case scenario is life in prison without parole. The worst-case scenario would the death penalty, according to Nathan. “No decision at this point has been made with respect to the death penalty,” said Nathan. He adds that he’ll take the family’s wishes into consideration. Nick is the second oldest of the three children, with an older brother, Jake, and the youngest and only daughter, Romy.

In an effort to avoid jail time or death, Nick has hired famed criminal defense attorney Alan Jackson. Alan got Karen Read out of a sticky situation when she was on trial for second-degree murder in the death of John O’Keefe. She faced a minor penalty for being found guilty of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. The jury acquitted her of murder.

Reports indicate Nick and his father had an intense argument Saturday during a Conan O’Brien Christmas party. Nick has also openly talked about his issues with drug addiction in the past. He was supposed to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his lawyer said he wasn’t medically cleared to be transported to court.
