Nick Reiner, who is facing charges for allegedly murdering his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, has petitioned the court for access to his trust fund to cover legal fees. The 32-year-old filed a 136-page petition in a Los Angeles County court on June 8.
Nick Reiner’s dispute over legal-defense funds and commissary access continues with the trustee
According to TMZ reports, Nick is seeking access to a trust fund of more than $1.5 million established by his parents for his benefit. The petition seeks the release of the first installment of the trust payment to help Nick cover legal costs and pay for necessities through his commissary account.
However, the petition states that half of the trust was to be given to Nick when he turned 30, and the rest when he turned 35. Nick’s attorneys referred to the terms as “unambiguous instructions” in the filing, reports Newsweek.
According to Page Six, Nick, who was initially represented by attorney Alan Jackson, is now being represented by public defender Kimberly Greene. Jackson was “forced to withdraw because funds were not made available from this Trust or the Reiner family trusts.” Now, Nick wants him back in the case.
The petition claims, as per People, “These distributions are non-discretionary”, adding, “The trust does not authorize the Trustee to condition these distribution points on any subjective assessment by the Trustee as to Nick’s intended use of those funds.” It states, “The stakes for Nick could not be higher.”
As per CNN, Nick was arrested a few hours after his sister discovered their parents, legendary Hollywood director Rob Reiner and producer Michele Singer Reiner, dead at their Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025. He faces two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents. His next court date is a pretrial hearing set for September 15.
