Matt Prokop, best known for his role in High School Musical 3, is reportedly accused of possessing child pornography. The former teen star has been arrested and is facing several charges. Reports say the actor is currently being held without bail. He was previously accused of abuse by actress Sarah Hyland.
Matt Prokop was arrested on multiple charges
Matt was arrested in Victoria County, Texas on December 24, according to Radar Online. The High School Musical star is allegedly also facing charges of resisting arrest and resisting arrest, search or transportation.
Officials say the arrest is related to an alleged breach of bond terms from an earlier case in May 2024. The actor was previously charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest, according to local news. There’s no word yet on when he’ll be due back in court.
This isn’t Matt’s first run in with the law. His former girlfriend, Sarah Hyland, previously accused him of verbal and physical abuse during their relationship. Court documents from 2014 accuse Matt of slamming her into a car and choking her during an argument, reports RO. He also allegedly threatened to kill her dog and burn her house down after the pair broke up.
Sarah eventually received a restraining order against Matt, requiring him to stay away from her for three years. She hasn’t spoken much about the alleged abuse in the years since. But in 2024 she told Variety: “I don’t know if that part [of] any woman will ever be fully healed from that. It’s something that kind of scars her soul a little bit. It’s more so putting love towards that scar instead of hating it and ignoring it.”
Sarah is now with TV host Wells Adams. The pair wed in 2022.
