Kiefer Sutherland Arrests: History Resurfaces Amid Alleged Assault

Actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested on Monday, January 12 in Los Angeles following an alleged altercation with a rideshare driver. The legal issue is among many that have occurred over the past decades.

The 24 actor is suspected of allegedly assaulted the driver and entering their vehicle without consent, according to police. This resulted in his arrest for suspicion of felony criminal threats.

But arrests are no new thing to Kiefer…

The alleged altercation took place in Hollywood near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, according to Daily Mail. After posting a $50,000 bond, Kiefer left the jail, and a court date is scheduled for February 2.

This arrest is one of many for the two-time Emmy winner. Court records reveal his first arrest occurred in Los Angeles in 1989 in connection with alcohol-related reckless driving and possession of a loaded weapon. Kiefer pleaded no contest to the alcohol-related reckless driving, with prosecutors dropping the weapons charge.

In 1993, after pleading no contest in connection with alcohol-related reckless driving, he served 200 hours of community service.

In October 2007, Kiefer pleaded no contest after an arrest the previous month with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit. His original 30-day sentence increased by 18 days after Kiefer violated probation from a 2004 drunk driving arrest. After serving 48 days at Glendale City Jail, he completed his sentence in January 2008.

In an appearance on Late Night With David Letterman that year, the actor discussed his jail time. ‘You ever get a brochure for a holiday and you get there and it’s not quite what you’re expecting?’ he said. ‘Jail is not that. It’s exactly as advertised.’

The plea deal mandated Kiefer serve five years probation, enroll in an 18-month alcohol education program and attend once-a-week therapy sessions for six months.

The son of the late actor Donald Sutherland, Kiefer appeared in several classic films over the last 40 years. These include A Few Good Men, The Lost Boys and Stand by Me.
