An ongoing court case has heard that Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power actor Peter Mullan was attacked by a man as he protected a woman from assault.
The incident occurred in September last year in Glasgow, Scotland. The actor was wounded after being headbutted by the assailant. During the altercation, Peter was protecting an unnamed woman outside the O2 Academy concert venue, who was crying during a confrontation with the attacker.

The Scottish actor sustained a head wound and was threatened with a glass bottle while coming to the aid of a woman, whose identity remains anonymous. Dylan Bennet, the named assailant, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for assault.
According to reports, Peter had spotted a woman crying during an escalating confrontation between a woman and her partner. CCTV footage captured Bennet grabbing the woman by the neck and violently holding and shaking her.
“[Peter] turned back and intervened, then stood between them,” Fiscal Josh Dowie told the court. “Mr Mullan told Bennet that the police had been called, and at this point he was headbutted.”
The court heard that Bennet was under the influence of drugs and alcohol during the altercation. The defendant stated that he now “deeply regrets” the incident, according to BBC.
Peter is best known to audiences for his roles as Jacob Snell in Ozark, and his Emmy-nominated role as Matt Mitcham in the BBC mystery series Top of the Lake. More recently, he portrayed King Durin III in the Amazon series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. A proud Scotsman, Peter also appeared in Trainspotting (1996) and Braveheart (1995).
