Though it’s been three years since Sister Wives star Meri Brown left Kody Brown, she still struggles with residual emotions. Some of those feelings revolve around her former sister wife Janelle Brown.
Aside from the fact that another woman was joining her marriage, Kody and Janelle didn’t have much sensitivity for Meri. For one thing, they originally planned to get married on Meri’s birthday. According to Meri, they thought, “It doesn’t matter. We’ll just celebrate [her birthday] a different day.” Fortunately, Kody’s mom talked them into changing the date.
“Like, excuse me? It does matter,” Meri said in the One-on-One special that aired January 25. “So let’s start the marriage relationship, the family relationship, with that.”
Janelle Brown was married to Meri’s brother before Kody

Prior to Janelle joining the Brown family, Meri and Janelle had been sister-in-laws. Before becoming sister wives, Janelle was married to Meri’s older brother Adam Barber. She was very young, and they were married less than a year before divorcing.
“She’d been married to my brother, and she was actually at my wedding with him,” Meri revealed in an earlier episode. “And then they divorced after Kody and I got married.”
While Janelle considered her first marriage was in the past, Meri still had feelings about it. After all, she watched Janelle marry and divorce her brother, then marry her husband.
“When the conversation about Janelle coming into our family started,” Meri said, “it was really hard for me.”
“It was a tough thing to wrap my head around on multiple levels,” she added. “[Janelle] had been married to my brother, you know? So it was definitely a thing for me, for sure.”
“There was a lot of emotion,” she concluded. “A lot of emotion!”
All episodes of Sister Wives are now streaming on TLC.
