Donald Trump denies sleeping during meetings
President Donald Trump has rejected speculation that he was sleeping during a Cabinet meeting. During remarks to officials at the White House, Trump explained that he altered the format of the latest meeting after an earlier session that stretched for hours. He told officials that he no longer planned to have every Cabinet member speak, noting that a previous session had stretched on for hours. He said, “It lasted for three hours.”
The President also rejected speculation that he nodded off during a Cabinet meeting. Addressing the incident directly, Trump said, “Some people said, ‘He closed his eyes.’ Look, it got pretty boring. I love these people, but there’s a lot of people!” He added, “I didn’t sleep. I just closed them because I wanted to get the hell out of here.” He went further in defending himself, insisting, “I don’t sleep much.”
Trump also joked that nearby officials would have intervened if he had actually drifted off. He named Secretary of State Marco Rubio by name, saying those seated around him would have made sure he stayed alert. The President said, “And besides that, Marco [Rubio], between these two guys, if I was sleeping, they’d be waking me up. They’d be knocking me, ‘Come on, you got to wake up, boss’” (via OK!).
Trump also reiterated his view that his administration operates openly. He added, “And I love going around the room, but we’re going to pick a few people.” The comments were made during a televised Cabinet session that lasted 81 minutes, shorter than some of his previous meetings.
