Chicago Bulls Star Collin Sexton’s Punishment After Inappropriate Gesture Revealed

Collin Sexton is paying a price for his actions on Monday. The Chicago Bulls shooting guard took exception to some fan heckling after missing a free throw with his team trailing the Brooklyn Nets 89-84. The former first-round draft pick pointed the middle finger up at the rim after missing the shot.

The incident took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Collin wound up making one of his two free throws on that occasion. His gesture went viral, and it’s a moment the NBA hasn’t forgotten about. They gave their ruling on the matter on Wednesday.

Collin Sexton was fined $35,000

Actions have consequences, and Collin’s moment of frustration is proving costly. The NBA has fined him $35,000 for the obscene gesture he made. Collin came to Chicago via a trade with the Charlotte Hornets on February 4th, with the Bulls receiving Ousmane Dieng and three second-round picks as part of the deal. Coby White and Mike Conley Jr. went to Charlotte in the trade.

The Cleveland Cavaliers drafted him eighth overall in 2018. After four seasons with them, he went to the Utah Jazz in 2022. He came to the Charlotte Hornets last June after three season in Utah.

His actions on Monday are another bad look for the league, who had their share of bad press late last year. Among them is an alleged gambling scandal reportedly involving LeBron James, among others. LeBron has been one of the faces of the NBA for years. His former head coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, Damon Jones, was also alleged to be a part of it.

Collin was a McDonald’s All-American in high school and attended the University of Alabama. In Monday’s game, he scored 21 points as the Bulls lost 123-115.
