It’s the most wonderful time of the year. We’ve reached the Med Gala portion of this season of Married to Medicine, and I couldn’t be more thrilled for the mess that is to come. Married to Medicine Season 12 Episode 9 “Med Gala Payback” kicked off a new era for Dr. Jackie’s event, and Toya, of all people, is at the helm.
Before diving into that, the ladies had to wrap up their cast trip in Miramar Beach, Florida, where Dr. Contessa felt hellbent on fixing some of the broken friendships in this group. When we last left off, Dr. Heavenly formed a truce with her “unhinged” frenemy, Dr. Simone. Whether or not that truce can stay on good terms is to be determined.
What happened in Married to Medicine Season 12 Episode 9?

After Heavenly and Simone kissed and made up, the ladies embarked on a sunset cruise around Miramar Beach to conclude their Florida getaway. Immediately upon returning home to Atlanta, Jackie and Toya dove into the planning process for the Med Gala. Just like in previous years, things quickly took a shady turn.
Dr. Heavenly hosted a town hall at sea

Famously, the M2M cast cannot be trusted on boats. Things always go off the rails. Sometimes people go off the rails. With that in mind, we were absolutely terrified when Contessa started gathering the ladies for a sunset cruise.
Fortunately, this boat ride turned out to be a little bit different from the rest. There was no fighting, and there were no exes showing up out of the woodwork. Instead, they danced the night away, and Heavenly decided to host a “town hall” to get some practice for the campaign trail. That went just about as well as you would expect.
At one point, Jackie asked Heavenly to name her “political mentor.” Heavenly replied, “Quad Webb-Lunceford,” completely forgetting that she hadn’t been a Lunceford in ages. Sweet Tea is somewhere shaking her fist at the TV right now.
Brandi asked Heavenly why a constituent should trust her in office, considering her messy history as a reality star. Heavenly pointed out that there are people in office who have done far worse. Heavenly said at least she’s not a felon! The bar isn’t that high to be a politician in the United States.
Either way, the ladies of M2M seem to have a hard time wrapping their heads around Heavenly’s campaign. Even when she tried to answer policy questions in earnest, she was met with snickers and side comments. No one thinks she’s “political” enough to sit in Congress. We hope she can prove them all wrong in November.
The ladies rallied around Quad after sharing her heartbreaking IVF update
Contessa was really hoping for a group bonding moment during this girls trip, and she finally got it during the last moments of the trip, albeit in a heartbreaking fashion. The ladies were having their final breakfast in Florida when Quad interrupted things to share her IVF news. She let the ladies know that it didn’t work.
Quad broke down into tears, telling the ladies the news. She admitted to feeling guilty that she didn’t freeze her eggs when Jackie advised her to do so years ago. It’s a devastating, but incredibly vulnerable conversation for Quad to have in front of these ladies—and all of the cameras. She’s devastated that she may have missed her window to become a biological mother.
Years ago, Quad said she wanted “trust, bonding, and real friendship” from her M2M circle. She got it this week, right when she needed it the most. The MIramar trip ended with everyone rallying around Quad while she cried over her fertility hurdles. They might not always get along, but everyone’s in her corner on this one.
The cracks started to show in Quad and King’s relationship

Back in Atlanta, Quad’s emotional rollercoaster continued as she sat down with King to debrief him on the Florida trip. It was painful to watch, and the writing is on the wall that there’s something afoot in this relationship.
Of course, we already know that they’ve gone their separate ways since filming ended, but in this episode, it was evident that their relationship had hit a wall. He barely wanted to hear about the Florida trip. He didn’t want to give her a bite of his fish plate. They’re no longer having sex 15 times a week. It’s a downward spiral.
Quad admitted that she felt like their relationship was missing its “warmth.” She’s finally starting to hear what King has been shouting: IVF put a strain on their relationship.
With all things considered, Quad decided to hit pause on the IVF process. Instead, she said she wanted to focus on reconnecting with King. She wanted to “pour back” into their relationship. We see how that turned out.
The Med Gala has a new chairwoman

The real meat of Episode 10 revolved around the Med Gala, and it’s the type of mess that we love seeing on this show. If you’re new around here, Jackie has been hosting this event for two years now. It’s supposed to be a way to bring together the medical community for a fundraiser. It’s a good cause, but they’ve got to trudge through a lot of mess to get there. This year is no different.
In the past, Toya hasn’t contributed to the gala, all while talking a big game from the confessional chair. She criticizes the event without lifting a finger to help, so Jackie decided to get a little payback by inviting Toya to be a chairwoman this year. She wanted Toya to experience just how challenging it could be to put on the event.
When the ladies were still in Miramar, you could see Toya already starting to crack under the pressure. However, once they got back to Atlanta, she felt ready to leap into action. With Jackie’s blessing, she decided to turn the Med Gala into a legitimate foundation, which could help them recruit corporate sponsors and legitimize the annual event. It’s a wise move, but that’s where things started to get shady.
Toya wants all hands on deck for the Med Gala
Apparently, everyone in Atlanta is launching a scrub line right now, because just a few episodes after Angel’s scrub line launch party, Jackie turns around and reveals she has one, too. She tapped Toya, Heavenly, Contessa, and Quad to shoot an ad for it. Unfortunately for Jackie, it got a little overshadowed by Toya’s announcement about the gala.
At the photoshoot, Toya apologized for her past behavior regarding the Med Gala. Then, she stressed the importance of having the entire M2M cast contribute to the event. Plus, she broke the news that she had evolved the annual event into a foundation.
Toya didn’t just stop there. She built a website, and Jackie appointed her as the CFO. She then pitched Heavenly as their marketing officer and told Quad she could be the organization’s secretary.
Obviously, none of that information went over well. Heavenly jumped in and told the ladies that they were going about it the wrong way. She also couldn’t understand why Jackie would let Toya take on a leadership role when, in the past, she refused to throw down any money towards it. Heavenly decided to throw Jackie under the bus by revealing what she said about Toya’s contributions to the event.
“Jackie said you were so difficult to work with and very unprofessional,” Heavenly blurted out to the group.
Did Jackie really say that? Probably, according to Contessa. Either way, there’s no changing the fact that the event is out of Heavenly and Quad’s hands. Jackie and Toya are moving forward with this new era of the Med Gala, and everyone else needs to get on board. Stay tuned to see if Heavenly and Quad accept their new positions.
Married to Medicine airs Sundays at 9/8c on Bravo. It streams on Peacock.
