An independent journalist is questioning the grand jury proceedings in his case. In late January, Don Lemon was arrested after live-streaming an ICE protest in Minneapolis. Donald Trump’s administration alleges that the journalist was involved in a conspiracy against the right of religious freedom at a place of worship. They are also accusing him of acting to injure, interfere and intimidate on that front.
A grand jury’s indictment against him has left Don baffled. He compares that ruling to something you might see in Russia, China or Iran. The day after his arrest, he was released. A federal magistrate judge claimed that there wasn’t sufficient probable cause to charge Don with anything.
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon isn’t going down without a fight

There’s something fishy going on regarding Don’s indictment. At least that’s the theory the journalist is throwing around. He believes that the government could have misrepresented key issues to a grand jury in order to secure an indictment. In the documents obtained by TMZ, Don claims that federal conduct in his case has been “highly unusual, nakedly political and inconsistent.” He believes that the feds were under pressure from the Trump administration to secure an indictment.
Despite the latest ruling not going his way, Don is fighting back ferociously against the allegations. He wants his legal team to obtain a copy of the grand jury’s legal proceedings to see if the government misled jurors to charge him with federal crimes. On February 13, Don pled not guilty to charges against him.
Don was among the many prominent figures who denounced the ICE shooting in January. Don’s attorney said the arrest was a violation of the First Amendment. In early February Don called on journalists to fight back against the Trump administration.
The Department of Justice had put Don on notice online before his arrest. Former Vice President Kamala Harris voiced her displeasure with Don’s arrest. The 2024 Democratic candidate for President said it represented the Trump administration’s suppression of a critical press.
