Hilary Duff Had This Reaction To Eating ‘Calf Balls’

Hilary Duff is opening up about a childhood food memory that still makes her cringe. The actor-singer recently recalled how her parents once tricked her into eating calf fries, believing they were chicken tenders. The moment, shared during a candid chat with her son, quickly turned into one of her most talked-about stories.

The funny story came up when Hilary Duff sat down with her 13-year-old son, Luca, for a chat with Billboard. Looking back on standout career memories, she mentioned performing at the Houston Rodeo for a crowd topping 100,000. She said the show itself is a blur. What stuck with her, though, was being driven around the arena while the place smelled like “cow manure and dirt.”

Then the conversation took a wild turn. Duff casually dropped a childhood bombshell. She told Luca her parents used to give her calf fries and asked if he knew what they were. When he looked confused, she broke it down. As a kid, she thought she was eating chicken fingers. In reality, the snack was “a portion of the calf… balls,” described Duff. Luca instantly recoiled, calling it “nasty” and “disgusting.”

The singer did not sugarcoat her reaction to the childhood reveal. When Luca asked if she was mad, she shot back, “Devastated. How would you feel?”

For context, calf fries, better known as Rocky Mountain oysters or prairie oysters, are a rodeo-style Southern dish. Cooks typically coat cow testicles in flour, season them, and deep-fry the pieces.

Even with the cringe-worthy memory, Duff still views her Houston Rodeo performance as a proud early-career win. She also highlighted her recent comeback concerts as major highs. She said getting back on stage felt like “a warm welcome” that helped calm her nerves. Now, the star is gearing up to drop her new album Luck… Or Something and kick off the Lucky Me Tour, her first full world tour in 18 years.
