Former America’s Next Top Model judge Kelly Cutrone is weighing in on Tyra Banks and Jay Manuel’s fallout. Jay spoke openly about the dissolution of his friendship and professional partnership with Tyra in the Netflix documentary Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model. Tyra, on the other hand, chose not to comment on the drama. Instead, she told producers she would rather have a private conversation with Jay.
Kelly did not appear in the ANTM doc, but she’s been making her opinions known through social media comments. Recently, Kelly left a comment slamming Jay for his treatment of Tyra post-show. Here’s what you need to know,.
Kelly Cutrone accused ANTM alum Jay Manuel of “trying to become relevant”
In an Instagram comment posted to X, Kelly took issue with Jay’s behavior after leaving ANTM. The People’s Revolution founder blasted Jay for not being appreciative of Tyra, accusing him of using the doc to stay relevant.
“Jay never even worked in the fashion industry – he worked at a Mac make up counter in Toronto,” she began. “Tyra boosted him and how did he repay [her] – by writing a novel about her and the show (which no one bought) and now he is trying to become relevant by being out there trashing her again?”
In 2020, Jay released a novel titled The Wig, the Bitch and the Meltdown. A synopsis describes the novel as, “a satirical look behind the scenes of the fictional reality model competition show Model Muse.” Although the novel is fiction, it is hard to ignore the similarities between Model Muse and ANTM.
Kelly ended her comment by sharing a personal experience she had with Jay.
“He was so incredibly rude to me my first day on the show,” she wrote. “He [came] up to me and said – welcome to the show – you are in the ejector seat (meaning anyone who in that seat [was] fired).”
Reality Check: America’s Next Top Model is available to stream on Netflix.
