Elisabeth Hasselbeck Return to The View Is ‘Being Treated Very Clearly as a Test’ — Source

A polarizing figure at The View from years past may be back for the long haul, whether fans want it or not. Elisabeth Hasselbeck was known for her fierce debates, often engaging in heated exchanges with her fellow panellists.

She left the program in 2013 for a brief stint on the show Fox & Friends. The ABC daytime talk show has brought the former footwear designer back as a fill-in host. According to one source, though, her return may not be temporary. “This is being treated very clearly as a test,” the source says.

If Elisabeth returns for good, she may have to mend her share of fences. She had plenty of blow-ups with the ladies on the show, many of which seemed to get ugly. Of those still hosting The View, perhaps the biggest beef Elisabeth seemed to have was with Joy Behar. The two had some epic confrontations that felt intense to viewers at home, so one can only imagine what it was like on set.

While Elisabeth got into heated discussions on the show, reports suggest its ratings remained strong. That is reportedly struggling now, with spirited debates becoming “more corrosive,” an insider told RadarOnline.

Perhaps the most infamous moment featuring Elisabeth in her first tenure on The View saw her trade verbal blows with former panellist Rosie O’Donnell. Rosie claimed Elisabeth wouldn’t defend her during a 2007 episode about the US involvement in the Iraq war. In October, Rosie said in an interview that she believed producers set that up.

Elisabeth’s return to The View as a fill-in host comes at a tricky time for the program. They are reportedly facing a federal probe by the Federal Communications Commission. Not having equal time for political views is apparently the allegation during their interview with Texas Democrat James Talarico.
