Rosie O’Donnell’s temporary return to the United States may have been just a test. The outspoken critic of President Donald Trump came back to her home country for two weeks last month. The former panellist on The View left for Ireland last year. This was to escape what she believed was a toxic political climate under Donald. While Rosie admits that she wanted to see her family, that wasn’t the only reason she came back for a short visit. Donald and her have had a long-standing feud ever since his first successful Presidential campaign in 2016.
Donald Trump has threatened to revoke Rosie O’Donnell’s citizenship
While Rosie was happy to see family upon her return, she was concerned about the state of America. In an interview with Chris Cuomo on Cuomo Mornings on SiriusXM, Rosie explained another motive for her temporary return to the US. “I wanted to see how hard it would be for me to get in and out of the country.” This came after the President had previously threatened to revoke her US citizenship.
In the interview last month, which has since been deleted on the Cuomo Mornings page, Rosie said what’s happening in the US under Donald is “heartbreaking.” The President was famously called out during a Republican debate ahead of his 2016 victory. A reporter noted that he’d called women fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals, prompting Donald to respond with “only Rosie O’Donnell.”
After nearly a year in Ireland, Rosie said in February she had no regrets about her decision to relocate. In Ireland, according to her, celebrity worship does not exist, unlike in the US. Rosie says she had to move to Ireland to protect her family and maintain her mental health.
A permanent return to the US would only happen if she believed it is safe for everyone to have equal rights.
