According to CNN, President Donald Trump said a Republican congressman faced a “terminal” health condition and had only months to live before he intervened to arrange treatment. Trump made the remarks in Washington while seated alongside Mike Johnson during a discussion about Rep. Neal Dunn of Florida.

He said Dunn, 73, had continued working despite serious health issues and stated, “He would be dead by June,” without specifying a formal diagnosis. Johnson responded, “OK, that wasn’t public,” adding, “But yeah, OK. It was grim,” as Trump further said, “This was a heart problem,” providing additional detail not publicly disclosed.

Republican leadership avoided discussing Dunn’s condition publicly but monitored his situation closely while managing a narrow House majority. Dunn and his office said he did not intend to leave his seat early. His office also did not respond to requests for comment after Trump’s remarks about his health and treatment.

Johnson said Trump called Dunn to thank him for continuing to work. He also offered access to his doctors. Doctors took Dunn to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for emergency surgery within hours. Johnson said, “The man has a new lease on life,” while Trump recalled, “He called to say that he was terminal, really bad heart. There’s nothing they can do.”

Trump also referenced White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and said she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, describing her as an “amazing fighter.” He said, “She’ll be around for a long time,” and added in a post that her prognosis was “excellent” and she would remain “virtually full time at the White House” during treatment. Trump said, “She’s going to be in great shape.”
