A former NFL superstar is taking some heat for his controversial comments. Shannon Sharpe took issue with a last-minute decision made by another ex-NFL player, Chad Johnson. The former Denver Broncos tight end called out Chad for bailing on Joe Johnson at the 11th hour, leaving the former NBA All-Star to sit courtside by himself at a recent game.
The former Bengals receiver, who once went by the last name Ochocinco, got into it with Shannon. On a recent podcast, Shannon blasted him for not following through on his plans to attend a game with the former player nicknamed Iso Joe. Chad claims that his plans changed for a good reason.

On the field, Shannon and Chad weren’t afraid to get into it with opposing players, and they brought that same heat on a podcast this week. In an episode of Nightcap, things between the two got personal. According to Chad, his family wanted to do something for his daughter’s birthday earlier than expected. That apparently wasn’t a reasonable excuse for Shannon, who took issue with his choice. “Ocho, you had made plans!” insisted Shannon on the show.
Chad didn’t appreciate Shannon pushing him on the matter firing back by saying “I don’t give a f*ck about no mother*cking plans if my child’s birthday is here.” Shannon thinks Chad should have clarified that with Joe. The former Cincinnati Bengals receiver says he did.
Shannon’s berating of Chad did not go over well online. One user called the three-time Super Bowl champion a “deadbeat” for calling out Chad’s supposed flakiness. In the past, Shannon has expressed regret that his focus was much more on his career than on his three kids. Chad has eight children of his own with multiple different women. He’s said to have a net worth of $12 million as of 2025.
