Elon Musk and Jon Stewart engaged in an online feud following Stewart’s remarks about the algorithm on X (formerly Twitter). The talk show host recently alleged that Musk has “vehemently” pushed his ideology about the voting situation in the United States and sown “the seeds of destruction.” His comments prompted Musk to respond on the public platform.
Elon Musk and Jon Stewart beef on Twitter
On Thursday, March 19, Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), posted a clip from Jon Stewart’s podcast episode and criticized him for making certain allegations. Musk posted, “Jon Stewart is an extremely skilled propagandist disguised as a truth-teller.”
In response, The Daily Show host wrote, “Elon Musk is an extremely skilled propagandist.”
The Tesla CEO took the exchange further and replied, “Not as good as you! Stop being so humble.”
Stewart then took the opportunity and invited Musk to his show. He replied, “Come on the show!! We’ll talk about how self deprecating we both are!!” However, the billionaire has not responded since.
For context, during the most recent episode of The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart podcast, the host alleged that Musk was pushing algorithms that favor the right-wing.
While talking about misinformation, Stewart said, “Elon Musk, for a long time, and really incredibly consistently and vehemently, has pushed this idea that undocumented non-citizen voting is rampant.” He then alleged that the SpaceX founder is using the platform’s algorithm for “sowing the seeds of destruction.”
The comedian continued, “[Elon] is a far more relevant actor in the warping of our democracy through his money and his algorithm than any measure of undocumented non-citizen voting will ever be.” He added, “What his argument, and I think his people’s argument, would be is: Now that we’re getting uncensored material, now that the First Amendment has primacy, people move to the right because they learn the truth,” he said.
However, Stewart argued that the platform’s algorithm “incentivizes the misinformation from the right,” adding that Musk “designs it.”
