It was reportedly Prince William’s wish to pay a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana. It played a pivotal role in naming his daughter, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, even before she was born. As reported by RadarOnline, royal author Russell Myers shared insights in the book “William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era: The Inside Story.”

Per the news outlet, the book claimed that Prince William had a “deeply personal request.” It was about what name he wanted for his daughter. The Prince of Wales allegedly wished to incorporate his late mother, Princess Diana’s, name into his daughter’s full name. It was reportedly his way of paying a homage to his beloved late mother.

In the book, royal author Russell Myers penned, “Catherine had her heart set on Alexander for a boy or Alexandra (also Queen Elizabeth’s middle name) for a girl.” He continued, “William had privately voiced his preference for having a girl.” Myers further claimed that the Prince of Wales “was keen to incorporate a tribute to his late mother.” He then added, “most likely in the form of a middle name.”

In the meantime, Prince William’s brother, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, reportedly also went in a similar direction when selecting a name for their daughter, Princess Lilibet Diana.

According to the news outlet, at the time of the Princess’s birth, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued a statement. They said, “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet.” They added, “Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother.”
