Jay-Z Applauds Daughter Blue Ivy, Says She ‘Fought for’ Cowboy Carter Tour

Blue Ivy Carter may have grown up in front of the world, but Jay-Z revealed she still had to earn her spot on Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter Tour, and he sounded like a proud dad when he talked about it. In an interview with GQ, Jay-Z opened up about watching Blue Ivy take the huge role during her mother’s tour run. He said the difference between her first time performing on tour and what happened later surprised him, because he saw his daughter dig in and push herself.

Discussing Blue Ivy’s progress in Beyonce’s Cowboy Cater Tour, Jay-Z told GQ, “That was amazing.” He pointed back to her early performances and the public reaction at the time, saying, “On the first tour there was a lot of conversation around her first performance, and she worked really hard to get to that point, but she still wasn’t going for it. She still was going through the motions.”

But then, something changed, according to Jay-Z. In that, he said, “And then she just started fighting back,” adding, “I saw her fight maybe for the first time in her life—like, not everything is just given to her and everything is easy. She fought for it.”

Jay-Z said Blue Ivy ended up everywhere during the show, telling GQ, “She’s almost on every number.” Besides, he even joked that he had to step in at times, admitting, “I had to take her off some, like, ‘Man, you can’t be on that stage when she’s singing ‘Six-inch heels…’; are you crazy?’ ”

In addition to dancing, Jay-Z shared, “Blue is a crazy pianist, but she won’t let us get her a teacher.” He added, “She doesn’t want it to be a job,” revealing, “But she has perfect pitch.”

Jay-Z is a proud dad, and he seemed to praise Blue Ivy’s effort in the Cowboy Carter Tour, revealing that his daughter worked for what she wanted — and now, he believes, “I don’t think we’re going to be able to get her off that stage now.”
