Pope Leo sends direct message to Donald Trump
In a call for peace, Pope Leo XIV has directly addressed Donald Trump, urging him to end the Iran war. Speaking with reporters in Castel Gandolfo on Tuesday, March 31, the pope called on the U.S. President and other world leaders to bring the conflict to an end.
“I’m told that President Trump recently stated that he would like to end the war,” Pope Leo XIV said. He continued, “Hopefully, he’s looking for an ‘off-ramp.’ Hopefully, he’s looking for a way to decrease the amount of violence, of bombing, which would be a significant contribution to removing the hatred that’s being created and that’s increasing constantly in the Middle East and elsewhere.”
Addressing all world leaders directly, the pope added, “I appeal to all leaders, come back to the table, to dialogue. Let’s look for solutions to problems, let’s look for ways to reduce the amount of violence that we’re promoting, that peace — especially at Easter — might reign in our hearts.”
The Pope’s latest message comes just two days after he criticized world leaders over the ongoing conflict and called the Iran war “atrocious.” Without naming anyone in particular, the Pope said that the leaders who start wars have “hands full of blood.”
On Wednesday, Trump addressed the nation in a televised speech, providing an update on the war with Iran. “Tonight, I’m pleased to say that these core strategic objectives are nearing completion,” the POTUS stated. Issuing fresh threats to Iran, Trump added, “Thanks to the progress we’ve made, I can say tonight that we are on track to complete all of America’s military objectives shortly — very shortly. We are going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks.”
