Robert Redford’s tribute at the Oscars was a contentious issue that still causing tensions weeks later. Barbra Streisand wound up doing the in-memoriam segment at the 98th Academy Awards in mid-March. She and the late actor and director starred in the 1973 romantic drama The Way We Were, earning Barbra an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
Barbra getting to honor Robert for the big ceremony, however, didn’t sit well with Jane Fonda. She had worked with the director of Ordinary People on several films before his death. There appears to be bad blood between Barbra and Jane that’s resurfacing as a result.

There seems to be a little jealousy in the air on Jane’s part. RadarOnline reports that the two-time Oscar-winning actress felt she should be the one honoring Robert.
While Barbra and Robert worked together before Jane had a longer history with the late actor, at least on screen. She and Robert were in four movies together. As such, reports suggest that Jane felt better suited to discuss Robert’s legacy at the Oscars.
According to an insider, “she (Barbra) and Jane were hugely competitive over Bob when he was alive.”
Days after the golden statuettes were handed out this year, Jane seemed to add fuel to the fire of Barbra by questioning her paying tribute to Robert. ”I have more to say,” Jane said, while pointing out that she did four movies with him.
When Robert died in September, Jane was among the first major stars to pay tribute to him.
Jane’s bitterness towards Barbra seems to have sparked hatred between the two. “She’s absolutely livid,” a source said about Barbra’s feelings toward Jane. They add that Jane’s disdain about the whole thing is casting a shadow on the whole Oscars occasion.
Robert and Jane last worked together in the 2017 film Our Souls at Night. Insiders say that Jane doesn’t believe she was out of line and has nothing to apologize for.
