A new royal book claims there was tension between Meghan Markle and Queen Elizabeth II over the latter’s tiara. The upcoming book by Robert Hardman, titled “Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story,” details the conflict the couple had with the late monarch before their wedding. Apparently, the Queen would offer a piece from her tiara collection to the royal bride as a sweet gesture of welcoming her. However, since Markle and the Queen didn’t have enough time to bond — allegedly because Prince Harry accompanied his then-fiancée — Markle’s request to get the tiara went unnoticed.

A Daily Mail report suggests that there was some tension between Queen Elizabeth II and Meghan Markle over the tiara. Robert Hardman has explained in detail about the incident in his upcoming book.
The author claims that giving a piece from her tiara collection to a royal bride was something that the late monarch truly enjoyed. This was her way of “bonding” with the new member of the royal family. The author claims, “It was her lovely way of bonding with the bride. She did it with Sophie [Rhys-Jones] and with Catherine [Middleton]. But there wasn’t that bonding with Meghan because she turned up with Prince Harry.”
The author further adds that Prince Harry mentioned in his memoir, “Spare,” that it was a joint invitation. However, insiders told him otherwise.
Markle loved Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau. And so, when Harry and Markle called the palace and requested Angela Kelly, the Queen’s dresser and curator, to send over the tiara, they were met with silence. The Duke of Sussex also considered confronting his grandmother but decided otherwise, as he wasn’t sure whose side she would take.
According to the author, when the late monarch came to know that Harry and Markle were demanding the tiara immediately, she allegedly became upset, saying that the tiara is “not a toy.” Despite all the tension, Markle ultimately wore Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau for her royal wedding.
