Melissa Gilbert continues supporting her husband, Timothy Busfield, amidst his child sexual abuse allegations. She has been steadfast in standing by him, even after his arrest and brief imprisonment last January.
Timothy is accused of the crime by twin boys who appeared in the Fox drama, The Cleaning Lady, which he directed. The Thirtysomething actor turned himself in to New Mexico law enforcement and has denied all charges.
The actor “will be exonerated,” according to his wife

Melissa spoke to Good Morning America’s George Stephanoplous about prior allegations against Timothy in 1994 and 2012. “These allegations have been out in the ether for a really long time,” the Little House on the Prairie star said. “When Tim and I got together, the internet existed. I didn’t go into my relationship with him blind. I am neither naive nor am I complicit.” After hearing his side of the story, and believing him, Melissa says the truth will eventually come out.
In a clip from the interview, she said, “Our life as we knew it is done. We are grieving what we had — all of our plans, all of our dreams, all of our ideas, all of our projects. For Tim, it’s done. He’s canceled. Even if he’s exonerated, he will always be that guy. [He’s] the last person in the world who would hurt a child. And believe me, if I thought for a second that Tim Busfield hurt a child, he’d have a lot more to worry about than prison.”
Melissa’s trust and support for her husband hasn’t wavered, and she is completely confident he will be found innocent. “We’ve been through struggles, we’ve had our own issues to deal with and we’ve worked through everything. He is nothing if not completely honest with me. I trust him with my children’s lives, with my grandchildren’s lives, my nieces and nephews. He is an honorable, caring, generous human being.”
Timothy’s trial is scheduled to begin in May 2027.
