Nicole Kidman recently revealed that she has been thinking of a new career. During a talk at a San Francisco university, the actor opened up about choosing to become a death doula. She explained that she decided on this new plan in honor of her late mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, who died in September 2024.
For those unversed, a death doula is also known as an end-of-life doula. It is a non-medical profession in which the individual and their family have a professional to rely on during the dying process.
Nicole Kidman reveals she will be learning to become ‘death doula’
Nicole Kidman opened up about her new career plans at the University of San Francisco’s War Memorial Gym on April 11. As per the San Francisco Chronicle report, she revealed that she would be learning to become a death doula. Reportedly, the idea first came into her mind after her mother passed away. Janelle Ann Kidman died in September 2024.
At the talk, the award-winning actor explained that her mom was “lonely” when she was on her deathbed. According to her, Kidman and her sister Antonia have tried their best to juggle caring for their mother, their respective careers, and their children. But she realized that it was seemingly not enough.
“Between my sister and I, we have so many children and our careers and our work, and wanting to take care of her because my father wasn’t in the world anymore, and that’s when I went, ‘I wish there was these people in the world that were there to sit impartially and just provide solace and care,’” Kidman elaborated.
Meanwhile, the “Babygirl” star has always shared posts about her parents on their birthdays or anniversaries of their deaths. On March 14, she posted a picture of herself and her mom on Instagram to celebrate her mom’s birthday. “Remembering my Mumma on her birthday. Always in my heart Mumma,” the caption read.
