It seems like Prince Harry is finally opening up. In fact, he is getting candid about the emotional work that he put in to prepare before he became a father. Additionally, the former Prince shared just how he made a conscious effort to deal with unresolved issues from his past.
He discussed this during a conversation with Dr. Zac Seidler for Movember, which is a global charity founded in Melbourne in 2003 to focus on men’s health and raise awareness surrounding prostate and testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.
Prince Harry prepared himself for having kids by ‘cleansing himself of the past’
During Prince Harry’s discussion with Movember’s global director of men’s health research, Dr. Zac Seidler, the former explained how therapy actually played an important role in preparing him for Parenthood. He explained, “Certainly, from a therapy standpoint, you want to be the best version of yourself for your kids. And I knew that I had stuff from the past that I needed to deal with and therefore, prepare myself to basically cleanse myself of the past.”
Furthermore, the Duke of Sussex revealed that ahead of his son Archie’s birth, his therapist encouraged him to stay emotionally aware. When the time came, he noticed a sense of disconnection in the early days. Reflecting on it, he shared that it stemmed from feeling like a bystander while his wife, Meghan Markle, was the one physically creating life. He didn’t shy away from the complexity of that moment, instead using it to highlight a broader truth about fatherhood.
Prince Harry also concluded his appearance by reminding fathers of something very important. He exclaimed, “To the dads and soon-to-be dads: yes, it’s messy. You’ll have a rollercoaster of emotions, and don’t judge yourself.” His message is simple but powerful: doing the inner work isn’t just personal, as it shapes the kind of parent you become. It’s quite clear that he has worked very hard to become the phenomenal father that he is today.
